This essay aimed at reviewing the literature of the update of Familial Mediterranean fever regarding its variable theories of pathogenesis; most recent of which is the pyrin theory, its variable clinical presentations, its recent diagnostic criteria, its investigations; most recent of which is the molecular genetic testing and its variable lines of treatment; the most classic of which is the colchicine and the recent lines including immunoguard, tumour necrosis factor alfa antagonists and interleukin 1 antagonists.
