Abstract:
The aim of the work is to; assess uteroplacental blood flow in early pregnancy abnormalities, evaluate the potential clinical value of Doppler waveform analysis of uterine, ovarian and subchorionic vessels in normal and abnormal early pregnancy and correlate the previous findings with the pregnancy outcome.Subjects and Methods: The study included 100 pregnant women during the first trimester they were divided into two groups; the control group included 50 pregnant women with normal pregnancy without any medical or obstetric complications and the study group included 50 pregnant women and was further subdivided into: threatened abortion (30 cases), blighted ovum (10 cases) and vesicular mole (10 cases). Results: There was no statistical significant difference when we compare the clinical data (including parity gravidity, gestational age and number of previous abortion) among cases of control group and the study groups. The uterine artery (RI) of the study groups were lower than the control group and the decrease was highly significant in the uterine artery resistance index (RI) of both threatened abortion and blighted ovum groups but significant only in vesicular mole group. Also uterine artery pulsatility index (PI) showed significant decrease in cases of the study group if compared with the control cases. There was a highly significant negative correlation between gestational age and both RI and PI of uterine artery. The correlation coefficient of the uterine artery RI and PI were –0.36 and –0.5 respectively. There was also significant correlation between gestational age and both RI and PI of the uterine artery of the study group.
