Abstract:
Aim of the work: Clinical and laboratory evaluation of the efficacy of tidal knee irrigation in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA).Methods: 60 osteoarthritis patients were classified into two groups; each was 30 patients. The 1st one under went tidal knee irrigation, while the other group was treated by knee aspiration only. Clinical evaluation of both groups by the WOMAC OA index and laboratory evaluation of the level of IL-1β and MMp-1 in the synovial fluid of all patients was done. Results: Significant decrease in WOMAC stiffness, functional and total scores in the irrigation than the aspiration group at 3rd and 6th months of follow up period. Significant increase in the level of cytokines ( IL-1β and MMP-1) in the aspiration group than the irrigation group at 3rd and 6th month of the follow-up period.
