Abstract:
Long ago, chronic renal failure was considered a very dangerous fatal disease. Over the past decade, the number of patients with renal failure has been doubled. With the era of the peritoneal and later on hemodialysis, the picture of this grave disease has improved. The number of patients starting dialysis or having kidney transplant has increased in the late decade by 50% (Castener et al., 2005).Renal transplantation is the most cost effective treatment for end stage renal disease (ESRD) and it provides a better quality of life than dialysis (Brook et al., 2002).End stage renal disease (ESRD) is associated with several dermatological conditions. Although the course of these diseases may begin with ESRD, it may become obvious shortly or even many years after renal transplantation. Pruritis is the most common cutaneous symptom. It is also emphasized by many authors that metastatic calcification, calciphylaxis, perforating dermatosis, nail changes, psoriasis, bullous eruption, skin colour changes, amyloidosis, and even some local complications of the instruments during the dialysis (Amer et al., 1992).Cutaneous lesions are a significant problem in renal transplant recipients. They differ according to the immunosuppressive drugs used. Also climate, sex, and skin type play role in their incidence in the general population (Seckin et al., 1998).
