Abstract:
Entropion is a chronic disfiguring disease which can lead to blindness. Main types of entropion are involutional, cicatricial, spastic and congenital. Senile entropion is caused by laxity of the lid muscles, ligaments and tarsus. This study was done aiming at comparing the results of Wies operation with horizontal shortening and retractor tightening with horizontal shortening for management of senile lower lid entropion and evaluates the importance of horizontal lid shortening for long term cure in correction of all cases of senile lower lid entropion with mild or moderate horizontal lid laxity.Thirty lids of senile lower lid entropion were involved in this study, belonging to 26 patients who attended Zagazig university hospital out patients’ clinic.Cases were divided into 2 groups;Group A: Thirteen patients (15 eyelids) of primary senile lower lid entropion were operated upon Wies operation with horizontal shortening. Entropion recurred in one case (6.7%) which was successfully treated by tarsal fracture. Rubbing lashes appeared in another case and was treated adequately by electrolysis .The primary success rate in this group was (93.3%) and the final success rate was (100%) after treatment with tarsal fracture.
