Abstract:
Objective:-This study was aimed to study postoperative complications following cataract extraction in highly myopic patients using either extracapsular cataract extraction or phacoemulsification for one year following surgery. Methods: In this study cataract extraction was done in 50 eyes that have high myopia attending the outpatient clinic in Zagazig university hospital were operated in Zagazig university hospital .the eyes were divided into two equal group (A & B ) In group (A) ECCE was done, while in group B Phacoemulsification was done. Results : - The mean age of group A was 53.85 years + 6.92 and the mean age of group B was 51.63 years + 7.38the postoperative S K in group A was 6 cases and in group B was 4 casesand postoperative Irido-cyclitis was 3 in group A and 2 in group B andPCO was 7cases in group A and 5 cases in group B while CME in groupA 7 cases and 5 cases and post operative RD was occur in one case in group AConclusion : Phaco emulsification in highly myopic eyes can be a safe procedure. There is a number of precautions that should be taken to overcome the difficulties This procedure; if done properly, offers the advantage of less surgical induced astigmatism and low incidence of anterior or posterior segments complication than planned extracapsular cataract extraction .Objective:-This study was aimed to study postoperative complications following cataract extraction in highly myopic patients using either extracapsular cataract extraction or phacoemulsification for one year following surgery.
