Abstract:
This work aims to evaluate whether the level of VEGF in the serum of asthmatic patients is related to diagnostic and prognostic criteria.Bronchial asthma is physiologically characterized by variable airflow obstruction and airway hyperresponsiveness. Some of the most common changes in asthmatic airway walls are epithelial desquamation, goblet cell hyperplasia, smooth muscle hypertrophy-hyperplasia, as well as growth and proliferation of new vessels. Increased VEGF levels in induced sputum BAL fluid, and VEGF-positive cells in bronchial biopsies have been found in patients with asthma compared to healthy controls.
