We can summarize the causes of the life threatening problems of the anaesthesia machine during administration of anaesthesia into: Delivery of a hypoxic mixture, disconnections or leaks, increase of intrathoracic pressure and delivery of anaesthetic overdosage. Modern anaesthesia workstations are provided with many safety features to prevent or attenuate these problems. Also easier monitoring, more accurate record keeping will add more and more safety in the future.
