Abstract:
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONThis work was carried out on 60 eyes (60 subjects) selected from those attending the outpatient clinic of the ophthalmology Department of Zagazig University Hospital and diagnosed as cataract which need extra-capsular extraction and intraocular lens implantation. They were classified into four groups, Group I: normal i.e. control group (15 eyes of 15 subjects). Group II: Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy group (15 eyes 15 subjects), Group III: Proliferative diabetic retinopathy group (15 eyes of 15 subjects), Group IV: Cystoid macular oedema group (15 eyes of 15 subjects). All cases were subjected to thorough case taking and complete ophthalmic examination in addition to visual acuity assessment (using landlot’s broken rings), central retinal senstivity with foveal threshold measurement using Humphrey visual field analyser model 360), color vision assessment (using Farnsworth D-15 panel test) and amsler grid testing.Previous tests were done postoperatively with at least 4 months follow up period. The results of this study revealed:1. Significant difference in visual acuity among the four group, there was remarkable tendency for worsening with increasing retinopathy severity.2. Color vision testing revealed prominant difference among the four groups, being worse as retinopathy severity increases.3. Comparing the results of mean macular sensitivity among four group, both NPDR and PDR showed reduction in mean macular sensitivity but the reduction was highly significant in cystoid Macular edema.
