Abstract:
To determine the effect of different analgesic agents onintrapartum fetal heart rate tracings.Over the last 35 years it has become common practice forobstetricians to use cardiotocography (CTG) to monitor fetalwellbeing in labor. Despite the widespread use of epiduralanalgesia, systemic analgesics remain an important part ofintrapartum pain relief in modem day obstetric.The aim of this study was to determine the effect of someanalgesic agents on intrapartum fetal heart rate tracings.The drugs used were meperidine (Pethidine) I mg/kg,nalbuphine (nubain) 0.2 mg/kg and butorphanol (Stadol) 0.04mg/kg.Sixty women with uncomplicated singleton vertexgestations at term who presented to labor and delivery suite ofZagazig University Hospitals during period from July 1997 toAugust 1999, were enrolled in this study.
