Abstract:
Total intravenous anesthesia (TIV A) with propofol is superior to inhalation anesthesia with isoflurane in terms of reduced incidence of hypoxemia during the early postoperative period. The reduction in oxygen saturation of patients in the present study was clinically significant more in the obese patients and the obese patients with chest problems.More important for the outcome is the knowledge and skill of the anesthesiologist in predicting and preventing potentially serious complications. Hence, the management of the obese patient represents a formidable challenge to the anesthetist but with understanding of the special problems and a logical plan for their management, the risks of anesthesia for the obese surgical patients can almost be substantially reduced.
