Abstract:
theaimofpresent workstudytothewasultrastructure of the kidney by the electron microscope togain some insight into the structure-function relationships, using the rabbit as an experimental model.Thekidneys of ten young adult rabbits wereusedinthisandstudy and they were classifiedintocorticalmedullaryspecimens.Somespecimens werefixedin2.50%glutaraldhyderefrigerator,in phosphate bufferfortwohoursin athen processed for electron microscopy.Theremaining specimens were fix~d in 10% formal-saline for 5-7days, then processed for light microscopy. The specimens for electron microscopy werepost-fixedininosmiumtetroxidein phosphate buffer, embeddedaraldite and cut into thin sections (lu)which werestainedtoluidine blue and examine to choose a suitable partbytheofThespecimen.chosen part wascutintoultrathinsections(50 - 70 nm) which were stained by uranylacetateand lead citrate to reveal the ultrastructural details. The specimens for light microscopy were dehydrated (inascendingof alcohol),cleared(inbenzene),gradesimpregnated (in soft paraffin),embedded (in hard paraffin)
