Abstract:
The disadvantages of biopsy techniques namely hemorrhage, pain,injury to nerves the need of time and equipments, and the need forgeneral anaesthesia in some cases justify lying much stress on testingthe different cytological techniques.The aim of this work was to investigate the technique of cyto -brushing as a good example of cytological techniques as compared to theusual technique of histopathological examination.All patients in this study SO cases were subjected to thoroughhistory taking, complete general and E. N. T. examinations and routinehematological and radiological investigations, while C. T., directnasopharyngoscopy and audiological investigations were done to specialcases when needed.The F ollowi~esul ts were ReP2r.=!~:1) The overall accuracy of cyto - brush technique as compared tothe biopsy was (98%).2) The overall false negative result of the study was (2%); onecase of maxillary mass which was latter proved by biopsy undergeneral anaesthesia to be mesenchymal chondrosarcoma.3) There were no false positive results.
