Abstract:
Summary & conclotionA Six months survey of the new cases in infancy and childhood periods presenting to Dermatologic Clinic at Zagazig University Hospitals was done. from the beginning of August 1989 to the end of January 1990 The 4610 cases were examined in this study, we can notice that both sexes were more or less the same affected, being 2272 males (49.3%) and 2338 females (50.7%) The incidence of skin diseases as regards age groups was as follows Neonatal period from birth to one month 45 cases 1.0% Period of infancy from one month to one year 1678 cases 36.4% Preschool age group from one to six years 1824 cases 39.6%. School age group from six to twelve years 1063 cases 23% This age incidence indicates that the maximum bulk of cases IS encountered during infancy and preschool periods. Regarding the aetiologic factors for the dermatoses during infancy and childhood periods in our cases, it was as follows: On top of the list came bacterial infections, 1598 cases (34.7%.) The most common bacterial disease was impetigo.Parasitic infestations was next, 1307 cases (28.4%) the commonest parasitic infestations was scabies.
