Abstract:
Selenium is one of the essential trace elements which is widely distributed in the soil and thus in plants, foodstuffs and animals.In human body, it is present in almost all cells especially the liver, kidneys, spleen, testes and pancreas and it is important for many body processes.Recently, selenium has been receiving huge attention due to the claims of its ability to maintain healthy immune function, its protective effects against cardio-vascular diseases, impaired thyroid function, cataract and macular degeneration and its ability to combate cancer and some chronic inflammatory processes such as rheumatoid arthritis.
