Abstract:
This study is constructed to estimate the serum iron status incirrhotic patient and to determine the correlation between the degree orhepatocyte damage and the status of serum iron parameters. The present study was performed to assess the serum Ironparameters and iron stores in cirrhotic liver.A total of 50 individuals were included in this study. They weredivided into two groups, group I (control), 10 individuals, group II(compensated cirrhosis), 20 patients, and group III (decompensatedcirrhosis), 20 patients. At entry all individuals were clinically and biochemicallyassessed. Measurements of serum iron, ferritin, total iron bindingcapacity and transferrin saturation were done.and liver needle biopsyand detection of iron content in the liver tissue using Perl’s stain wasdone. Liver biopsy was taken from all cases of compensated cirrhosisand halI’of the cases of decompensatd cirrhosis. The three groups werecompared as regard their iron status.
