Abstract:
In surgical procedures and anesthesia involving the aorta, renal arterialand venous surgery, renal dysfunction secondary to ischemic reperfusion injuryis a serious clinical concern (Frank et al., 1993; Aronson and Blumenthal1998). In addition graft preservation is an integral part of renal transplantationbut despite improvement in organ procurement and formulation of perfusates, acute tubular necrosis after transplantation frequently leads to delayed graftfunction in the recipient, particularly when associated with a prolonged warmischemia time (Bayati et al., 1990 & Alejandro et al., 1994).Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the effectiveness ofrenal ischemic preconditioning and to determine whether adenosine pretreatmentcan protect renal function and mimic renal ischemic preconditioning, also todetermine whether adenosine infusion combined with preconditioning has anadditive protective effect or not. The animals were divided into five groups andeach aroup was subdivided into two groups one used to record haemodynamicchanges and the other to collect serum samples and histopathological specimens. The animals were subjected to the following protocols.
