Abstract:
bracne scars is a devasting problem, affecting a great number of people, at wide range of years. This problem might lead to psychic stress on the patients, which may lead to withdrawal from society low self esteem and also tendency to suicide.Historically, post acne scarring has not been well treated. New techniques have been added and older ones modified to manage this hitherto refractory problem. Treatment modalities included dermabrasion, chemical peels, punch grafting, scar excision, intradermal filler injection and ablative laser resurfacing. In this current study we tried to study the efficacy of two treatment modalities; dermabrasion and chemical peeling using glycolic acid 70% in the treatment of atrophic post acne scars.Forty patients participated in this study, 12 males and 28 females, ranging from 17-32 years of age complaining of post acne scars. These 40 patients had been divided into two groups. Group A composed of twenty patients who were subjected to dermabrasion, group B composed of twenty patients who were subjected to chemical peeling with glycolic acid 70%.The patients were instructed to apply tretinoin 0.02% before beginning either of the two treatment modalities, every night for two weeks, this allowed dekeratinization of the superficial keratin layers thereby providing a more uniform permeability of the skin, to peeling agent, also it improved wound healing, and prevented further complications of dermabrasion..
