Abstract:
Benign prostatic enlargment commenly associated with voidingdysfunction. Which has been recognized as a disease of old men for centuries.Most cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy can be managed successfullyby either open or transurethral surgery, but when surgecal mangement iscontraindicated. The disease can cause considerable functional disability. So, trialsshould be made to find ”Pills for the prostate” which may at least lessen thesymptoms.Prolactin might be involved in prostatic growth, on this basis, a prolactininhibitor may be given as a medical treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy.Bromocriptine is that prolactin inhibitor chosen by us for such a purpose. It is asynthetic ergot alkaloid of poly peptide type, Known to have a pharmacologicaleffect on the prostate and it’s capsule.Our work included 26 patient. all complained of prostatism ”(6) of themdid not complete the trial due to the side effect of the drug. So the net number is 20case)” their ages ranged form 57 to 78 years old. and 5 healthy men of the sameage taken as a control group.
