The diagnostic importance of specific IgE and eosinophilia in the asymptomatic and clinical forms of toxocariasis

Abstract:
This study was designed to assess the correlation between detection of specific IgE and eosinophilia with the clinical presentation of toxocaiasis. Through cooperation between tropical and parasitology departments, faculty of medicine, Zagazig University, our study was conducted. It included 526 individuals. They were taken by stratified random sample from Shenbaret-Elmaymoneh village and the outpatient clinic of the tropical and internal medicine departments of Zagazig University Hospital.All studied individuals were subjected to history taking, particularly history of contact with dogs and cats and pica behavior, special consideration was given to history of the disease symptomatology as wheezes, abdominal pain, skin rash and nodules, arthralgia, fits, and cardiac symptoms. In addition, they were subjected to complete medical examination, ultrasonography, Stool and urine examination, complete blood count, absolute eosinophilic count and serological examination of anti-TES total IgG, IgM and specific IgG and IgE.Three groups were studied:1. Group 1: included (25) cases with clinically suspected Toxocara VLM, eosinophilia > 450\mm3 and negative stool examination for other parasites.2. Group 2: included (21) individuals with mixed parasitic infestation.
