Abstract:
This work was carried out to study the efficacy of DOTS in themanagement of pulmonary tuberculous patients at an Egyptian locality withspecial reference to the factors affecting the patient’s compliance andtreatment outcome. This study included 300 patients all having pulmonaryTB. All patients were complaining of respiratory symptoms. Their agesranged from 14 to 86 years.The study was carried out at Meet Ghamr, Dakahlia Governorateduring the period from March 2001-November 2002.Patients were studied in 2 groups:Group I: included 100 patients who received SAT.Group II: Included 200 patients who received DOTS.All patients were submitted to the following:1-Full medical history.2-Clinical examination.3-Radiological investigations, postero-anterior and lateral views.4-Tuberculin skin test.5-Direct smear sputum examination for mycobacteria.6-Routine laboratory investigations (e. CBC, ESR, Post prandial bloodsugar and liver & kidney function tests).
