this work was carried out on 125 patients divided into fivegroups, each group is 25 patients. The anaesthetic technique was as follow :• Premedication: atropine sulphate 1 mg and pethidine 50 mg i.m.half hour before induction.•Induction a sleep dose of thiopentone sodium and ini tial dose ofatracurium 0.5 mg Kg-I, then endotracheal intubation and cent-rolled venti lation.•Maintenance : by a mixture of N20 and oxygen (60% N20 and40% 02)’ 0.5% halothane and incremental doses of atracurium.• Recovery : the effect of atracurium was reversed by neostigmineand atropine 1 mg.The parameters studied in this work : pati ent ts vi tal signs(mean arterial blood pressure and pulse rate), evaluation of intubationcondi tion, the dose of atracurium used, the time of onset, the dura-tion of action and reversibility of the muscle relaxant. Some liver function tests were done for groups I, II (totalserum proteins, serum proteins, serum albumin, A/G ratio, bilirubin,SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, zinc turbi di ty, thymol turbidi tyand prothrombin time).
