The results of several recent survery suggested that the mortality rate resulting primarily from anaesthesia is of the order of 1:10.000. this level of anaesthetic –related mortality is impressive in contrast with a surgical mortality rate which may be 100 times greater .however, it is well to remember that this degree of safty has been achieved in only relatively recent times.
