Abstract:
99SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION15 individuals with B - thalassemia major, 15 withthalassemia minor and 2u normal individuals were studied •They were subjected to complete blood picture includingexamination of stained blood smears and determinalion ofred cell indices-Hb-A2 quantitation was carried out usingmicrocolumn chromatographic Kit, cellulose acetate electr-ophoresis with densitometry and with elution.in this study it was found that diagnosis of B - thalas-semia major is not difficult usually made in the first fewyears of life • The hematological findings in our cases werethose of severe anemia that was not compensateed and wider~e of Hb F , A2 and A according to the genotype of B -thalassemia maj er •Un the other hand diagnosis of B - thalassemia carrieris more difficult most of them asymptomatic or had a milddegree of anemia • ’l’he most definitive method for identificationof heterozygous B - thalassemic , is the globin syntheticrate measurment • But since such determinations are notsuitable for general use in the routine clinical labo.ratory, simple , efficient accurate and precise procedures for dete-cting those heterozygotes need to be developed • Elevationof Rb - A2 percentage was found to be constant finding nearly.
