Abstract:
metabolic syndrome is a cluster of interrelated common clinical disorders, including central obesity, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hypertension, and dyslipidemia (hypertriglyceridemia and low HDL-cholesterol levels). According to recently defined criteria, the metabolic syndrome is associated with a greater risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease than any of its individual components. The aim of this study is to study the diurnal variation of cortisol hormone in the metabolic syndrome& in the central obesity, to study the correlation of cortisol hormone secretion to various aspects of the metabolic syndrome and to study the possibility of using cortisol hormone secretion as marker in the metabolic syndrome.50 Subjects were included in this study, they were divided into 3 groups:Group I: Included 10 apparently healthy volunteers.Group II: Included 20 obese non diabetic normotensive subjects.Group III: included 20 obese hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients. All subjects of the study were subjected to the following :I) Full history taking and thorough clinical examination.
