Abstract:
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONThis study was designed to evaluate serum calcitonin (CT) and parathormone(PTH) hormones in chronic renal failure (CRF) patients under different modalities of treatment and to estimate bone mineral density (BMD) correlating it with s.CT and PTH hormones levels. This study was conducted upon 80 subjects divided into four groups, control group (20 apparently healthy individuals) conservative group (20 patients),peritoneal dialysis group (20 patients) and hemodialysis group(20 patients).History taking ,clinical examination, routine investigations beside the specific investigations include PTH,CT and BMD were performed to every individuals included in this study. After the study, the following data were collected:-BMD was decreased in the three patients group as compared with the control group.-BMD was decreased in HD group more than PD group.-PTH was elevated in the three patients groups as compared with the control group.-PTH was elevated in HD group than PD group.-There was inverse correlation between the serum PTH levels and BMD.-s.CT was elevated in HD group than PD group.-s.CT was olso elevated in conservative group.-There was non significant correlation between s.PTH and s.CT.-There was no correlation between serum CT and BMD.-There was significant negative correlation between BMD and duration of dialysis in HD and PD groups.-BMD was higher in males than females in CRF patients.Recommendation:The measurement of BMD in CRF patients is preferred to be done in cortical bone than in trabecular bone .
