Abstract:
The present study was conducted to determine the diagnostic yield of push-type enteroscopy in relation to clinical indication.This study included 25 patients. They were 16 males and 9 females with mean age (42.3+16.5years) (16-74years). All already were undergone upper GI endoscopy and complete colonoscopy, which failed to provide a diagnosis.The patints were classified into 3 groups according to enteroscopic indication. They were:Group I: patients with obscure overt GI bleeding (14 patients).Group II: patients with chronic diarrhea and/or malabsorption of suspected small bowel origin (5patients).Group III: patients with unexplained abdominal pain and / orradiological abnormalities of small bowel (6 patients).All patients were examined by means of push-type enteroscopy (VSB-3440, Japan) in GI endoscopic unite, department of internal medicine Zagazig University hospital (Egypt). The depth of insersion estimated by substract 60° from total length of insersion. A median depth of insertion was 120cm (30-160 cm).
