Study Of Oesophageal Motility In Chronic Renal Failure Patients Under Different Modalities Of Treatment

This study is planned to examine motor function disorders ofthe oesophagus in chronic renal failure patients and the role ofgastrin hormone in these motor dysfunctions.It is well known that chronic renal failure is associated withstructural and functional abnormalities of the gastrointestinal tract.There are multiple studies about gastrointestinal symptoms, lesionsand their etiologies in patients with CRF. However only littleresearch has been clone on gastrointestinal motor function in thesepatients. The present study aimed to examine motor functiondisorders of the oesophagus in chronic renal failure patients underdifferent modalities of treatment and the role of gastrin hormone inthese motor dysfunctions.The study included 40 persons who were divided into 2 maingroups:(a)The first group: control group included 10 healthy persons.(b)The second group: Included 30 patients with CRF underdifferent modalities of treatment.-10 patients were under conservative treatment.-10 patients were under regular hemodialysis (6 males and 4females) with a mean age ± SD 40 ± 4.9 years for variable periodsof dialysis from 24 to 58 months. Three sessions (5 hours each)were done per week.-10 patients were under intermittent peritoneal dialysis (6 malesand 4 females) with a mean age ± SD of 39 ± 7.9 years for periodsranging from 6 - 36 months, two sessions were done per week (15dialysate bags 2 litres twice weekly).
