Abstract:
Control of scarring is certainly one of the most difficultchallenges of surgical practice. Keloids and hypertrophic scarscause functional and aesthetic problems. Currently, there areseveral accepted approaches for the treatment of keloids andhypertrophic scars, each treatment presents various advantagesand drawbacks in terms of effectiveness, time, cost, anddiscomfort (Rapheal et al., 1994).In this study, re-evaluation of commonly used treatmentmodalities.50 patients with keloids and hypertrophic scars were divided into5 groups.Group 1 :The line of treatment in this group was silicone gel sheetapplication strictly to the lesion, maintained for 12 hours dailyfor three moths.Pretreatment score ranged from 9 to 11 with mean 10which after treatment ranged from 3 to 7 with mean 5.7 (Successrate 43%).Group 2 :The line of treatment in this group was silicone gel coatapplication twice daily for three months.The pretreatment score ranged from 9 to 12 with mean10.4 which after treatment ranged from 4 to 7 with mean 5.4(Success rate 48%).Group 3 :The line of treatment in this group was intralesionalinjection of kenacort-A.The pretreatment score ranged from 17 to 12 with mean10.4, which after treatment ranged from 3 to 7 with mean5.1(Success rate 50%).
