Abstract:
Use of the CO2 laser in the treatment oflaryngeaI cancer has afascinating history. When it first became apparent that the CO2 lasercould be used to incise tissue and that such incisional surgery waspossible with minimal post-operative oedema or intra-operativebleeding, attention was quickly focused on the larynx.Jako and Strong were pioneers in the introduction of the CO2laser into the laryngeal surgery and the role of CO2 laser excision ofvocal cord cancer has increased recently. This study is aiming at evaluation of the results of CO2 endoscopiclaser surgery in the management oflaryngeal carcinomas. In order to achieve that aim, 50 male patients with glotticcarcinomas of different T stages (from Tis to T3) have been selectedfrom the outpatient clinic of ENT departments of Zagazig UniversityHospitals, Ain shams Specialized University Hospital and Nasr CityHospital for Medical Insurance. Those patients have been subjected pre-operatively to full historytaking, complete ENT examination, radiological investigations, voiceevaluation studies and direct laryngoscopy under general anaesthesia. Then those patients have been referred to Ain Shams SpecializedUniversity Hospital and Nasr City Hospital for Medical Insurance toundergo curative endoscopic laser surgery.
