Suicidal Thoughts and associated factors in elderly population

Aim of work: to examine the prevaience of suicidal thoughts and to determine the factors associated with the suicidal thoughts.Subjects and methods: elder population aged 60 years and over searching for psychiatric advice in psychiatric outpatient clinic and psychiatric inpatient department in zagazig university hospital during the period of 1/11/1997 to 31/10/1998.they were subjected to:* comprehensive psychopathological ration scale (CPRA)to detect suicidal thoughts.* DSM-IV criteria for major debressive episode.* Mini-mental state examination.* Sociodemographic data.* Statistical analysis of the results.
