Abstract:
Our study was carried out (69) pat ients, 47 males and 22females. They were all subjected to clinical examination, duplexDoppler us of the lower limb venous system. Bilateral studies wereperformed in 6 patients with bilateral symptoms; therefore a total of75 (69+6) extremities were evaluated. All the imaging studies wereperformed within twenty-four hours of one another. Thus 75 lower limbs were examined by two imaging modalities. The deep veins of each limb were divided into 1 segments:(I) Veins proximal to the inguinal ligament (common and externaliliac veins).(2) Veins between inguinal ligament and knee (common femoral, superficial femoral, deep femoral, popliteal veins).(3) Infrapopliteal deep veins (tibio-peroneal trunks and branches ofthe posterior tibial and peroneal veins).By duplex Doppler examination, we relied on the followingcriteria to diagnose DVT, non compressibilty of the veins, visualization of the intraluminal thrombus and abnormal or absentDoppler shift signal as principle criteria. Each venous segment of the lower limb was evaluatedseparately compared with contrast venography results as gold.
