Abstract:
Patients with chronic renal failure have a high frequency of cardiovascular atheromatus diseases .The polymorphisms of apo E are major determinants of plasma lipid levels in uremic patients .They may affect the risk for cardiovascular disease in these population. This study aimed to elucidate the role of apo E genotypes as a risk factor for vascular complications in patients with chronic renal failure. This study included (40) subjects ,they were divided into three groups:• control group: included 10 apparently healthy subjects.• Chronic renal failure patients on maintenance heamodialysis without vascular complications, 15 subjects• Chronic renal failure patients on maintenance heamodialysis with vascular complications, 15 subjectsDiabetic patients and those receiving drugs that may alter lipoprotein metabolism e.g. thyroid or antithyroid medications were excluded from the study. All subjects in this study were submitted to the following:”Thorough clinical examination and routine laboratory investigations- Determination of serum urea and creatinine.- Liver function tests (total bilirubin,SGOT,SGPT)- Lipid profile (total cholesterol ,triglycerides, HDL and LDL cholesterol)*Specific investigations: Apo E genotyping by real time peR.The present study revealed a significant increase in cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL with significant decrease in HDL in complicated dialysis patients compared to non complicated and control subjects .
