SUTURE VERSUS MESH REPAIR OF UMBILICAL HERNIAS IN ADULTS

Umbilical hernia is common in adults, but it has received little attention in comparison to other types of hernia of the abdominal wall. The classical methods for repair have resulted in high rates of complications including recurrence. The widespread use of mesh material in the treatment of inguinal, femoral and incisional hernias, with excellent results, has led to an evaluation of its use for umbilical hernias.
