Abstract:
Clinically, a-b status is appraised by measurement of the components of the carbonic acid buffer system, ph, pco2 and hco3.although this is by no means the only buffer system in the body, there are unique reasons for its use, the most pragmatic of wich is that we are technically able to measure these variables routine analysis of blood gases in the clinical laboratroy involves measurement of pH and partial pressures of O2 and Co2.
