Abstract:
Impedance audiometry is one of the advanced audio-logical tests applied in the field of audiology. Its principle is based on the acoustic impedancewhich is the resistance offered by the conductive system ofthe ear to an acoustic signal, in normal ear some of theacoustic signal is absorbed to the middle ear and the restis reflected back at the tympanic membrane. The amountabsorbed and that reflected depend on the compliance and theresistance of the conductive system, that is to say tympanicmembrane, ossicles and ligaments. By knowing the complianceand the impedance of the normal ear we can detect any shiftfrom the norma 1.The instrument used in these measurements is theelectroacoustic impedance bridge.Change of pressure in the ear canal and contraction ofthe intratympanic muscles changes the impedance.Test procedures currently used are1 - Static acoustic measurment.2 - Reflex measurements.3 - Tympanometry.
