Abstract:
Disturbances in glucose metabolism play an important role in the Pathogenesis of CHD. They are recognized too late when diabetic vascular complications are present. We believe that most unrecognized disturbances of glucose metabolism could be explained by the use of single measurements of FPG in the diagnosis of diabetes. This study was carried out in the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Clinical Pathology Departments, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University Hospitals to find out a correlation between disturbance of glucose metabolism and number of coronary artery occlusion. It included a total number of 75 subjects (55 males and 20 females), referred to the cardiology department for coronary angiography from July, 2004 to July, 2005. A written informed consent was obtained from all participants before the study. They were divided into four groups according to coronary status to group 0 (patients with no significant coronary changes), group I (patients with one vessel disease), group II (patients with two vessel disease) and group III (patients with three vessel disease). All patients included in this study were subjected to the following:Full clinical assessment including history taking, clinical examination,Lipid profile (TC, TG, HDL.c and LDL.c), oral glucose tolerance test: with estimation of glucose and insulin 0 (fasting), one hour, two hours, Estimation of HbA1c, Echocardiography study and coronary angiography.
