Abstract:
Aim of the work: Analysis of Pleural effusions by conventional cytology, DNA flow cytometry, argyrophilic staining of Nucleolar organizer regions, conventional biochemical analysis and by estimation estimation of CA 72-4 in both serum and pleural fluid for petter diagnosis and differention of benign and malignant pleural effusions.Cytologic evaluation of pleural fluid is useful to detect malignancy within the pleural space. in some cases a definitive diagnosis cannot be made on cytologic evaluation alone. this study was undertaken to improve the diagnostic yieldof pleural fluid analysis and to differentiate between benign and malignant pleural effusions.
