Abstract:
Radiographic assessment plays an important role in detecting theunderlying infratentorial mass and determining whether it is present or not.If present, it suggests a likely pathological diagnosis, which helps theneurosurgeon and radiation therapist in the plan of treatment. In order to assess the response of the tumor to treatment,in caseswhere a neoplasm has been discovered, and to identify the possibility ofcomplications, radiological follow-up is essential,. The aim of this work isto emphasize the role of 1.1RI in the diagnosis of various infratentorialneoplasms. This study was carried on 61 patients, 37 were males and 24 werefemales, their ages ranged between 2 and 73 years old. Patients weresubjected to MRI examination and manifestations including, site, size, relation to the adjacent structures, various signal intensities (TI-weighted,T2-weighted, and proton density), presence of hydrocephalus, and thesignal void of calcification or blood vessels, in addition to the pattern ofGd-DTP A enhancement are collected. Also a Comparison with CTdiagnosis was performed in some cases. The Mkl diagnosis wascorrelated with the surgical and pathological results in most of the cases.According to the tumor location, patients were classified into twogroups:The first group ”intra axial neoplasms” includes 38 patients. 9cerebellar astrocytoma, 9 brain stem glioma, 5 medulloblastoma, 6ependymoma, 8 metastases and one hemangioblastoma.
