Abstract:
The utility of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) for early detection and staging of prostate cancer as well as to monitor responses to surgical, hormonal, and radiation therapy for patients with this malignancy is well established. A paucity of information exists regarding the metabolism and excretion of this protein. This study was carried out on 90 cases (induding 20 normal person as a control group, and 70 cases with chronic renal failure). These cases have the same age group, their ages ranges from 40-68 year, with mean age 50 +5.95 ys. These cases were classified into 5 groups including; group (I) represent 20 normal persons as a control group, group (II) represent 20 cases with Ch.R.F of recent onset without dialysis, group (III) represent 20 cases with Ch.R.F under regular hemodialysis, group (IV) represent 20 cases with Ch.R.F under regular peritoneal dialysis, and group (V) which represent 10 cases with Ch.R.F under regular hemodialysis with high PSA level due to prostate disorders. The data obtained from analysis of our results, revealed that, the serum PSA level of all studied cases were not affected by kidney functions nor dialysis either hemo-or peritoneal dialysis.
