Abstract:
Sialolithiasis is largely a disease of adults, andthere is a 2:1 male sex predilection. However, there areseveral reports of salivary calculi in infants and child-ren (Burdel et al., 1970).The left side is said to be more frequently affectedthan the right (Tourneux et al., 1970). And rarely thereis bilateral involvemento Multiple occurrences of sali-vary calculi in the same gland. However, are quitecommon. The submandibular gland contains two calculi inapproximately 20% of the patients and more than two in 5%(Noehoe n , 1970).The calculi generally round or oval and is yellowishbut may be vary from white to tan. The consistency rangesfrom soft to stony hard. In general the salivary ductcalculus is hard, whereas peripheral salivary calculi issoft (Rauch and g cr-Li.n , 1970).Salivary calculi were formed by a laminated mL~tureof inorganic and organic substance. However, there was noregular pattern for the growth of stones, as laminalthickness and the arrangment of the laminal component werenot uniform (Harril, 1959).
