Abstract:
This work was carried out in the Internal Medicine and as well as Clinical Pathology Departments, Zagazig University Hospitals.Subjects:Fourty cirrhotic ascitic patients included in this study were selected from the patients admitted to the Internal Medicine Department. The diagnosis of cirrhotic ascites was made by using standard clinical, laboratory and radiological Criteria.The subjects were classified into two groups according to the treatment policy:Group I:Included 20 cirrhotic patients with moderate ascites, they are (12) males (60%) and (8) females (40%) with age ranged between (25-62) years with a mean  SD (43.7  10.1) years. They were treated by diuretics only [spironolactone alone or associated with furosemide).Group II:Included 20 cirrhotic patients with tense ascites. They are (11) males (55%) and (9) females (45%) with age ranged between (27-62) years with a mean  SD (41.7  10.1) years. They were treated by paracentesis and serum albumin replacement. Then followed by diuretics to prevent reaccumulation of ascites.
