Abstract:
This study was carried out on 150 patients who underwent open heart surgery for valve replacement or repair, coronary bypass grafting and total correction of congenital heart defects , to evaluate the incidence , presentation managment and outcome of extrathoracic complications following open heart surgery . Type of operati on , durati on of cardiopulmonary bypass mean blood pressure during bypass and type of anaesthesia were recorded. For detection of hepatic complications , blood samples were taken preoperatively and postoperatively for determination of the followingparameters :-(1) Serum bilirubin ,(2) Prothrombin time and concentration.(3) Liver enzymes, SGOT , SGPT and ALP.Our results showed an incidence of postoperative hepatic dysfunction 8 % with mortality rate 25 % .It also showed a significant positive correlations between the development of postoperative hepatic dysfunction and type of operation , duration of cardiopulmonary bypass, mean blood pressure during bypass and use of \’assopressors inotropics .
