Abstract:
this study was carried out to investigate and compare the effect of the mode of delivery on the concentration of maternal and neonatal <serum cortisol, serum insulin, plasma glucose and lactate it included 48 full term newborn infants they were divided into four groups:Group I : Twelve newborn infants bom normally (normal labor group).Group II : Twelve newbom infants bom vaginally by low forceps orventouse under general anesthesia (operative vaginal deliverygroup ).Twelve newbom infants bom by C.S. under generalanesthesia after onset of labor pain (emergency C.S. group).Group IV : Twelve newbom infants delivered by C.S. under generalanesthesia before onset of labor pain (elective C. S. group).The studied newboms had a gestational age 38 weeks or more.ey were healthy and from mothers with uncomplicated pregnancies,selected mothers were free from systemic diseases and hadcomplicated pregnancy, they have not received any medication thatuence the biochemical parameters of the study. General anesthesia forients was conducted after pre-oxygenation at least 3 minutes beforection. A sleep dose of thiopentone sodium 2.5% was injected.
