Abstract:
The pro inflammatory cytokines are responsible for varIOUSmanifestations of infectious and inflammatory diseases. Their patterns intyphoid and paratyphoid fevers were a focus of interest for manyinvestigators who showed controversy regarding the level of thesecytokines.Type I CMI plays an important role in protection from typhoid fever. The understanding of cell-mediated immunity is the most importantbecause antibodies, although abundantly produced locally can’t access andact on these intracellular pathogens. This study was planned to determine the levels of someproinflammatory cytokines, IL-6 and TNF-Rl, together with CD/ andCDg+ T-cells in children with typhoid fever in order to high light the role ofthese mediators in typhoid pathogenesis and correlation of them withclinical features and outcome of the disease. For this purpose 30 children(18 males and 12 females) with their ages ranging from 3-13 years (meanage 8±5 years) with culture proven acute typhoid fever and 10 healthychildren (6 males and 4 females) with their ages ranging from 2.5-12.5(mean age 7.5± 5) were included in this study.
