Abstract:
Liquid-liquid extraction of chromium(VI) from synthetic waste solution using Alamine 336/kerosene was investigated. The extraction conditions were evaluated by varying the experimental parameters. On the basis of the slope analysis data, the composition of the extracted species was found to be R3NH2CrO4 or (R3NH)(2)Cr2O7. Alamine 336/kerosene solvent extracts Cr(VI) ions under the optimized conditions in three stages at an O/A ratio of 1 according to McCabe-Thiele diagram. Sodium hydroxide was found more efficient for Cr(VI) stripping. It was accomplished in two stages at an A/O ratio of 1. Finally, the method was applied for extraction Cr(VI) from electroplating and leather tanning waste solutions.
