Abstract:
Summary & Contousion The literature concerning treatment of Bell’s llsy has been surveyed and several of the more rr t Lne nt articles brie fly reported and appropriate marks made regarding them. Idiopathic facial paralysis., or so-called, ll’s palsy describes acute perineural facial palsy Iueto simple edema- of the nerve in its bony canal, and which is diagnosed by the exclusion of other conditions affecting the nerve. The unique journey of the facial nerve through its long, tortuous and narrow Fallopian canal, and its complex relations, together with the enveloping.neural connective tissue sheath and the pattern of blood supply, accounts for vulnerability to that condi tiona The etiology and the pathogenesis of Bell’s palsy have been ascribed to many factors. Ischemia accompanied by swelling in the Fallopian canal WaS the most accepted hypothesis, especially among advocates of vasodilator therapy and surgical de-compression. Quite possibly a proportion of cases Should be classified as due to herpes virus, while.
