pain is the most distressing sympotoms that force the elderly to seek for the medical advice.pain perception rests upon the transmission of impulsesfrom the site of the stimulus to the higher centres of the brain through multisynaptic pathways.many theories have been advocated to explain mechanism of pain;specificity teory,pattern theory, and gate control theory which is the most recent.pain is classified as cutaneous pain, deep pain muscle pain, visceral pain, referred pain and psychogenic pain.
