Abstract:
the extent to which non-depolarizing muscle relax-ants bind to plasma proteins has been widely studiedwith little agreement, Between 30% and 55% of tuboc-urarine is bound to albumin and gamma-globulin (Ghoneim,et al., 1973; Duvaldestin and Henzel, 1982). Pancuroniumbinding varies from 13% (Wood, et al., 1980) to 87%(Thompson, 1976).The present work aimed at the study of the relation-ship between the requirements of three non-depolarizingmuscle relaxants and the plasma protein pattern in chron-ic bilharzial patients. The three muscle relaxantsstudied are, gallamine, pancuronium bromide and d-tuboc-urarine.This work was performed in 150 patients who wereundergoing elective abdominal surgery. Patients weredivided into three main groups according to the musclerelaxant used. Each group included 50 patients, 25 patientswith chronic bilharziasis and 25 patients as control,Diagnosis of bilharziasis based on clinical findings andlaboratory data. Both males and females were included, and the obese patients were excluded from this study.
