in the past, primary vascular tumour of middle ear.- .diagnosed as hemangio- endotheliomas or angio-endotheliomas.In 1941 Guild described clumps of cells similar inappearance to carotid body cells, located in the adventitiaof the dome of the jugular bulb. This structure he namedthe glomus jugularis.Glomus tumours are relatively rare tumours and yetthey are the most common benign neoplasm involving themiddle ear. They are believed to be neoplasm of. the golmusstructure which lie in the adventitia of the dome of theC’..jugular bulb (glomus jugular) and in the region of the vega.Lganglia (glomus vagale), and along the course of the tympanicbranch of glossopharyngeal and along the auricular branchof vagus nerves.Several names were reported about the glomus jugularetumours, first by Guild as glomus jugularis then glomusjugulare, tympanic tumour, non chromaffin para ganglioma,chemodectoma, glomerocytoma and jugular receptoma.
